„SPREADING THE GREEN PHONE NETWORK“
REGIONAL PROJECT STARTS

'SPREADING THE GREEN PHONE NETWORK' is project in partnership of Green phone network Croatia represernted by Environmental Association Pan – Karlovac, Environmental Association ''Bura'' Mostar from BIH and Volunteer's Centre of Vojvodina and Nature Conservation Movement from Serbia. Project will last till May, 2008 and it will be financially supported by REC ( Regional Environmental Center) SECTOR framework programme with 35 000 Euro.

During the project period members of Green phone network in Croatia will transfer the knowledge (workshops, trainings, study visits) of Green phone service to a group of environmental CSOs in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. By motivating and supporting local activists with the objective of setting up 2 Green phone offices in each country and to initiating the establishment of a Green phone network in each country we will increase the awareness of citizens and local authorities regarding the importance of environmental protection in urban areas, cooperation and implementation of sustainable development principles.

The Green Phone Service is an established instrument for data collection, environmental analysis, citizen’s information and participation and political activism. It provides a tool for quick and effective public participation in identifying and solving environmental problems. The functioning principle of the GPN is that citizens can report environmental problems to the closest local CSO member of the GPN, which will then try to solve it using different channels and methods, mostly in co-operation with local authority departments and services, and the media.

Green phone network is active since 1999. Members of Green Phone Network – Croatia: Environmental Association Green Osijek, Green Dream- Vinkovci, Environmental Association Žmergo-Opatija, Environmental Association Franjo Košcec- Varaždin, Eko Zadar, ZEO Nobilis- Cakovec, Environmental Protection Association Sunce-Split, Green Istria- Pula, Green Action Zagreb and Environmental Association Pan- Karlovac.

The main aim of this Project is to imrove and promote Network in all teritory in Serbia, in tend to protect urban environment.
